Yesterday was a scheduled 8 mile run, so I got to work early. On long run days I either go in early or stay late because I go over the standard lunch time.
I eat breakfast at home, so going to work early means eating breakfast early. And that means that I'm running 8 miles nearly 4 hours after eating. For most people, that's probably not a problem. I certainly didn't even think about it being a problem for me.
But along about 6 or 6.5 miles, I started really bogging down. I altered my route and ended up running a little over 7.5 miles instead of the planned 8 miles.
I should have eaten a banana around 9:30 or taken along some Carb BOOM. Ooopsie.
But I've been tired this week. Really tired. I was thinking last night that I haven't been this tired since high school when we would do those two-a-day football practices.
When T.S. Eliot opened his epic poem The Waste Land with the line, "April is the cruelest month," well, he was probably training for a late May marathon.
The schedule says 12 miles for Saturday. I'm really looking forward to that.

Barry, some fried chicken or a hot dog an hour before your lunch run will power you through that slump!
LOL--Just imagine the power I'd get from fried chicken AND a hot dog!
